Seeing the church building progress as far as it has in 10 weeks has been a humbling experience. When I see all the work that has been done by voulenteer groups ,freinds, and church members I can see God's hand in how far we got on the project. At this time on the building all of the electrical is roughed in. Sheetrock is hung in the sancuary ( thanks to an awesome church work day last Saturday ) Also sheetrock is hung in all classrooms and halls that do not have any plumbing in them. The new front doors should be here in the next week or so. All of the hot water lines for the heating system are in place. When I think about the project and how I would have liked to have been farther I have to remember all of the things we had to do to make the project work. Doing design when I got here for the permits. Fixing all the strucual problems with the building to make it strong enough for the snow load on the roof. Fixing the one thing that the electrical inspector did not like. ( I lost three days fixing it ). The learning curve for the boiler lines ( I had never done boiler lines before ). So in the end I am very pleased with were we are leaving the project. I look forward to being able to tell many of you how our summer went and how the Lord was able to use us this summer. My brother Abe is coming up for a black bear hunt for four days. We spotted 3 bears in a 10 square mile area from the air. Then he is going to help me drive the truck home 3600 miles again!Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-62092185481068680912010-08-22T16:27:00.001-07:002010-08-22T17:00:52.179-07:00Parsonage Apartment<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_hNp3vW3BlQw/THG4o-l29vI/AAAAAAAAAE0/yeNU2z5xdW0/s320/Apartment_04.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508386833386895090" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_hNp3vW3BlQw/THG4oEblDHI/AAAAAAAAAEs/iwHhUYP5URk/s320/Apartment_07.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508386817774521458" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hNp3vW3BlQw/THG4nVqCaqI/AAAAAAAAAEk/c1ABnEJSIi0/s320/Apartment_06.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508386805218699938" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hNp3vW3BlQw/THG4m_vAdOI/AAAAAAAAAEc/JiEjjTvzoIs/s320/Apartment_02.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508386799333962978" />
Here is the project Nathan and fellow Rejoicers worked on last year.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-73147201406924955702010-08-22T16:09:00.000-07:002010-08-22T16:13:57.070-07:00Final Work DaySaturday August 21st was Nathan's final work day on the church building. Can't believe they got it all done. The church building has wires hanging everywhere. Also a big thanks to Mark a electrician from Florida that spends his summers in Alaska and helped plan out the electrical process.

We took a weekwnd vacation down to Homer, 3 hours away, to camp a couple of days. The weather was cool and wet but we had fun and it cleared off enough to see the Pacific Ocean and mountains across the bay. We fried halibut and lingcod over the campfire for our dinner. YUMMY! There was also a Concert on the Lawn going on Saturday and Sunday at the park we camped at so we had free local music. It was actually pretty decent stuff. The entire family enjoyed hiking along the beach of Kachemack Bay at low tide and found some really cool creatures. It was so nice to relax in the midst of our busy mission project.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-20011281654811729042010-08-03T16:15:00.001-07:002010-08-03T16:15:45.598-07:00MPChurch, by amy voight
I'd like to share my Snapfish photos with you. I will be starting to wire it in the morning. If all goes well I hope to be done with wiring on Friday. Amys great uncle Al Marquardt was here last Thursday and Friday to help. He was a huge blessing as my team had very little construction experience. Having a trades person here to help made a huge difference by the end of the week.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-39181623109896789202010-07-23T16:02:00.000-07:002010-07-23T16:16:17.235-07:00So much for a Quiet WeekGod continues to work His wonders in providing funds and workers! We thought this last week would be a quiet catch up week with just Nathan working on the church. On Sunday night we received a call at 10:45pm from Mission Match wondering if we could keep a crew of 9 busy for a couple of days. Sure Nathan said, we had prayed for more workers had'nt we? So our team from Tampa arrived Monday at noon and were put to work busting the plumbing trench and building walls. It looked as if material would run out by Tuesday and since the church hasn't closed on the property sale we would also be out of funds. Nathan made the call to Scott Kirby at Mission Match to let him know we were no longer in need of assistance for the rest of the week. We were reminded of the fact that work crewa also came with funds to the projects they worked on. With the extra crew this week and the one coming next week the church would have around $3000 for materials and could we keep the crew the rest of the week, asked Scott. Well, alright then, time to go buy electrical parts to keep the work going. Off to Kenai we went to the supplier in Soldotna. Nathan was blown away by how helpful the saleperson was and yes he knew pastor Mark Milligian and had played softball with other members of the church. oh yeah, and I'll give you the contractors pricing plus we could deliver for no charge (80 miles one way). So of course you can gues by now how much the bill worked out to. Drumroll please...... $2977.26. Amazing God!Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-53243103059790437352010-07-14T09:11:00.000-07:002010-08-31T16:41:34.514-07:00the work goes on<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_hNp3vW3BlQw/TH2SRACQM_I/AAAAAAAAAFc/DPG4-mDIPzI/s320/phone+pics+081.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5511722339736237042" />
As much as we would love to have a work crew going it has been a blessing to have a quiet week at the church project. We all spent some time on Monday helping daddy with cleanup. Our friend Troy from MN is up and is helping Nathan frame Tuesday and Wednesday this week. We take him up to Anchorage on Thursday to fly back and get some stockup shopping done.
Electrical planning is in the works right now and should be one of the main projects when tthe next work crew comes up July 25. You can follow the church blog moosepasscommunitychurch.blogspot.com that Wendy Milligian has created for another perspective on the project.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-12761000630753638192010-07-14T08:51:00.000-07:002010-07-14T09:10:59.001-07:00Family Outing

Connected by MOTOBLUR™ on T-Mobile

After work on Tuesday we took a little trip up to the sea town of Whittier Alaska about 60miles away. To get there if go go through the longest tunnel in North America of 13,000 ft long. The tiny town is located on the Prince William Sound surrounded by Mountains. We had an excellent supper of fresh halibut! Before going home we tackled a short (0.8 mile) hike to Byron glacier to play in the snow. It was really cool- literally and figuratively! Timmy thought it was great fun to throw rocks in the icy waters from the melting snowfields and glaciers up in the mountains.
The halfway point of being gone this summer comes on Thursday for the boys and I. We left six weeks ago and our plane brings us home August 26. Nathan will be driving home a week or two after us with his brother Abe. The time is going fast and it's beautiful and awesome up here but we have been a little homesick.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-28303929253991690392010-07-11T22:44:00.000-07:002010-07-11T23:03:13.377-07:00Future Kitchen

Connected by MOTOBLUR™ on T-Mobile

Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-86421886457647944222010-07-11T22:39:00.000-07:002010-07-11T23:01:57.375-07:00Week Four

Connected by MOTOBLURâ„¢ on T-Mobile

What a week! The crew from Alabama was awesome. Nathan was pretty tired from keeping 16-18 guys busy all week but they had such willing hearts and worked well together. We have been so blessed to meet so many men and women of God with servants hearts to do whatever needs to be done these past weeks here in Moose Pass. God is going to bring revival here and free people from their bondages of addiction and any other sin holding them back.

The church building is really taking shape with all the framing that was completed. The rooms are taking shape and everyone is getting excited. The space is badly needed since there were 46 souls worshipping in the tiny church on Sunday.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-60934581628583159932010-07-11T22:38:00.000-07:002010-07-11T23:04:04.540-07:00Future Nursery

Connected by MOTOBLUR™ on T-Mobile

Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-42260965999301148932010-07-08T08:17:00.000-07:002010-07-08T08:20:45.464-07:00Framing week

Connected by MOTOBLUR™ on T-Mobile

Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-28246425338656130392010-07-05T21:00:00.000-07:002010-07-05T21:17:34.435-07:00Work Crew 2Church building project is up and running for the week. This team is from Alabama and most of them are from a large church of 2200 people. Nathan is keeping super busy with 16 guys hauling busted concrete floor( a section had sunken over time and needed to be replaced) and framing. A few of them went out fishing at the Russian River tonight.
Being a large group 3 are staying in the church next to us, some are in a camper and the rest are in the apartment of the Pastor Milligians house that Nathan and the Rejoice team worked on last year.

The boys had fun today with Jacob and Andrew Milligian at our house today. Wendy had some time to herself to get caught up at home. The 5 boys and I did some school reading, listened to Adventures in Oddessy and went to the playground. The growing boys devoured 2 bags of popcorn and would have ate a 3rd if I would of had one more.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-82091608213034888672010-07-05T19:42:00.000-07:002010-08-25T10:50:19.418-07:00Celebrating the 4th<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_hNp3vW3BlQw/THVXvSixz8I/AAAAAAAAAFE/40t9serzZYY/s320/captain+cook+state+park+(5).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5509406189100847042" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_hNp3vW3BlQw/THVWC8WTLZI/AAAAAAAAAE8/dGZegW1Dpkg/s320/captain+cook+state+park+(4).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5509404327717055890" />
We had an awesome time with our friends, Mike and Cayla Boettcher and their 3 little kids this weekend. They took us Anchorage and the volcanoes across the water but unfortunatly it was cool and rainy, again. We rode 4 miles up the rocky shore dodging many large boulders until we found a good spot to make a beach fire. Hot dogs and smores were our late lunch. After lunch we climbed up to the little house attached to a rock and use the outhouse. The kids had tons of fun digging in the rocks and finding really interesting ones. Back at the house for supper we fried Alaskan Halibut! Yum!
Sunday we drove back from Kenai (almost 2 hours) to lead our second night of FPU class and meet the work crew for the week. They don't do fireworks up here- no darkness to do it in.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-76827755017901440872010-06-29T17:30:00.000-07:002010-06-29T17:52:09.122-07:00God's Miracles take 10God keeps surprising us with so many things. Yesterday (Monday) Nathan happened to hear that the Methodist Church in town had a work crew in town for their church and they were just about finished with their work. Nathan contacted them and they were excited of the oppurtunity for more work before they leave on Thursday. One of the things happening next on the church is welding more support rods to the future attic. Guess what one of Nathan's new crew has done for 46 years? Welding of course! So that was the project for today.
On Wednesday the crew of 10 will be working hard. We were also asked by Scott Kirby the work team coordinator for projects here in Alaska, if we could possibly use the full team of 16 people that is scheduled to be here next week. The original plan was to have just 10 of the team of Alabamians here at our projects and the other 6 elsewhere. Nathan said send them on over! We are praying 2-4 of the team members have construction experience to help Nathan divide the crew into effective units! Framing will be the main project.
We are now waiting to receive the electrical plan so we can take all the necessary paperwork to the fire marshall in Anchorage to apply for the permit. Keep praying for that process.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-3321187808946588522010-06-26T19:35:00.000-07:002010-06-26T19:47:58.491-07:00engineer approvalWe now have stamped plans from the engineer for the church project. Next stop fire marshall. The first work crew was top notch. Hard working and willing to do anything. We dug all the footings and poured them on Friday. We also built a yard barn for the church to use for storage. Busy busy week. Accomplished much for the kingdom.
NathanAmy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915220134185810321.post-8237826871166080772010-06-24T00:16:00.001-07:002010-08-25T11:05:42.218-07:00Special Blessing<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_hNp3vW3BlQw/THVa4WIVLRI/AAAAAAAAAFM/Bb6MnLnOnBw/s320/Cruise+(24).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5509409643217366290" />
The work crew this week blessed us by including us on the Resurrection Bay boat cruise with dinner! We saw sea lions, jellyfish, puffins and mountain goats. It was so beautiful. Caleb got a tad seasick but a 1/2 hour after Dramamine took care of that. Josh absolutely loved it. They had a park ranger on the tour pointing out the animal and things and a junior ranger program for the kids so the boys have now been deputized. Thanks guys!
Wendy Milligian, the pastors wife, graciously took care of timothy for us so we could enjoy the cruise with Caleb and Josh. Timothy hasn't been away from me for a few weeks but he was a very good boy and took a 3 hour nap for her and had fun playing with 2 year old Anna until we got back at 10:45pm to pick him up.Amy and Nathanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17446046715387439067noreply@blogger.com1
